The Chevrolet Corvette began as a convertible more than half-a-century ago in 1953 and went on to become a legendry sports car. The 2008 Corvette Convertible is enhanced with more power, refined interiors and additional standard features.
Powertrain and Performance
For 2008, the Corvette Convertible is available in three trim levels: 2LT, 3LT, and 4LT. The Convertible is powered by an enlarged, 6.2-liter LS3 aluminum-block V-8 engine that puts out 430 horsepower at 5900 rpm and 424 lb-ft. of torque at 4600 rpm. Power output is even higher with the dual-mode exhaust system that sends 436 hp at 5900 rpm and 428 lb-ft. of torque at 4600 rpm. The six-speed manual transmission is standard for all versions. A six-speed paddle shift with automatic modes is available with an automatic transmission. The 6.2L engine with manual transmission gives 16 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
Build and Styling
Standard features in the 2008 Corvette Convertible include rich leather two-tones, door panel uppers, arm rests, console cover, and perforated sport seat surfaces. The package features a new bias-pattern console trim plate. The 2008 Corvette Convertible offers a power top that features an easy-to-use, single-latch release. The top and tonneau cover, cycle up or down in 18 seconds without the driver leaving the cockpit. A bulkhead helps block road noise and creates a completely enclosed trunk. The convertible rear window has a built-in heating element for better visibility.
Safety Features
Standard safety equipment includes a Driver Information Center, anti-lock disc brakes, tire pressure monitor system, head-curtain-side-impact airbags, and StabiliTrak electronic stability control system that improves vehicle stability particularly during emergency situations.
